The history of the Salerno Maritime Station
The maritime station was commissioned in 2000 by the former mayor Vincenzo De Luca to meet the growing demand for the cruise landing of various companies, come MSC Cruises, Royal Caribbean e Costa Crociere. The municipal administration, at the end of an international competition of ideas, instructed the architect Zaha Hadid, with the task of creating a modern and functional maritime station.
Thanks to its strategic position, barycentric between the Amalfi Coast and the Cilento coast, and the proximity of the islands of Capri and Ischia, as well as the excavations of Paestum and the archaeological site of Pompeii, the maritime station of Salerno is an ideal landing place for cruise traffic.
